As of now, I'm taking open commissions.

My specialty is sword and sorcery fantasy characters and monsters.  However, I also do tattoo designs, horror work, landscapes, and some limited portrait work (if you want to take a look, visit my gallery).

I will not do any of the following:
- porn
- pets and kids
- licensed characters / IP (at my discretion)
- offensive work (at my discretion)

I also reserve the right to decline commissions (before payment is made) if I feel that I would not be able to complete the work.

PRICES:

Spot illustration / item (1/4) page:  B&W: $15.00  Color: $20.00

Standard character / creature (1/3 page): B&W: $35.00  Color: $50.00

Small scenes / characters with background (1/2 page): ~$75.00 (ask for estimate)

Commissioners can also purchase the original of any illustration (if one exists) for an additional $10.00 plus shipping, no matter the size of the piece.

To book a commission, send me a note or e-mail message with your request.  Once all is agreed, payment is made up front via PayPal.com, and your slot is filled.  Just to reiterate, I do not do work on spec.

PROCESS:

1.  A small number of thumbnail sketches of poses are sent to the commissioner within 2 to 4 days

2.  Once the sketch is approved, it proceeds to detailing and cleanup.  The commissioner decides up front as to how finished the piece will be before being sent.

3.  The illustration is sent as a high-resolution .jpg or .tiff file to the commissioner.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via note.

Thank you,
- Dave Mallon

Art PACT

"PACT will be a tool to help freelance fantasy, sci-fi, and comic book illustrators negotiate a better living wage for themselves."

There are just 19 days left to fund this ambitious project to give freelance artists a cohesive voice in the market place.  If this doesn't receive enough funding, there won't be another chance to create something like this.  Please, if you are a professional artist or want to one day become one, look into this campaign, if you are able throw some money their way.

No frills, no mess.  DeviantArt will remain my primary site for uploading sketches, experiments, and general work, while DaveMallon.net will be reserved for professional-level portfolio pieces.

If you haven't already noticed, I've put the majority of my work in storage, and greatly reduced the amount of folders in my gallery.  I'm trying to present myself more as a serious artist than the spotty jack-of-all-trades that I've been in the past.

Due to some very important advice I received at Illuxcon this year, I won't be taking commissions or soliciting professional work for a while.  My purpose on this site is now basically to gather ideas, tips, and critiques from professionals in the field.  I will be uploading some new work, but very infrequently.

Finally, I'm also planning on ditching my internet handle and switching my username to my real name on this site.
